Approximately 230,000 women are diagnosed each year in the U.S. with breast cancer making it the most common cause of cancer in women. Although breast cancer remains the second most common cause of cancer death in American women, death rates have dropped approximately 20% in the past 2 decades in large part due to increased screening (which allows patients to be diagnosed with smaller, more curable tumors) as well as due to new effective therapies that have been developed in the past few decades.
